Pepper Mutton masala is definitely a treat for all mutton lovers. Count me in since I’m also a huge fan! This dish is packed with flavor and I’ve made it countless times without ever getting bored. It’s super easy to whip up and doesn’t take much time at all. Did I mention it tastes just like the mutton masala we order at restaurants? It totally does! The flavors are just so perfect and will leave you craving more.

About Pepper Mutton Masala
The key to making great pepper mutton masala is giving it enough time to marinate. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, but if you want the mutton to soak up all the masala flavors even more, you can marinate it for up to 2 hours. Marinating not only helps the meat absorb the flavors but also tenderizes it, thanks to the blended ginger and garlic.
This recipe’s got a unique twist with roasted fenugreek and peppercorns ground together, adding an extra layer of aroma and flavor to the mutton. Making this ground masala is a one-time thing just for this recipe. But if you love it as much as I do and plan to make it often, you can prep the masala in batches ahead of time. Just store it in an airtight container, so when you’re ready to cook this pepper mutton masala, you can skip the roasting step and speed things up.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this with plain rice and Rasam or go for some flavored basmati rice like Vegetable Pulao or Vegetable Biryani. I usually whip up some Ghee Rice for this pepper mutton masala, and the kids love the Masala Fried Chicken, so there’s no skipping that! Pair it with refreshing raita and crispy pappadum for an authentic meal.
If you’re into lighter meals, try serving this pepper mutton masala with dosa, idli, chapati, or naan. Even a simple piece of bread tastes great with it!
